Add and rank incentives

Bundle the rewards a customer earns for completing your campaign's action, and order them so your strongest reward leads.

An incentive is one reward inside a campaign. A campaign carries an ordered list of them, and that order is what a customer sees: rank 1 shows first, rank 2 next, and so on. Each incentive also has its own on/off status, so you can add a reward now and hold it back until you're ready.

Incentives are managed in the Paylode admin app, on the campaign's Perks tab — there's no API for reward management; the API's job is serving the resulting journey. For the campaign itself, start with Create a Boost campaign; for which rewards pull best, see Choose rewards for a campaign.

How it works

  • Two kinds of incentive. A perk — a deal from your perks program, which can carry a single-use coupon code delivered per journey — or a gift card drawn from one of your funded pools, delivered to the customer as a reward link.
  • Rank sets the display order. Ranks start at 1 and are unique within a campaign — two incentives can't share a position.
  • Status is per incentive. A paused incentive stays attached and ranked but isn't shown to customers; the rest of the campaign runs normally.
  • Gift-card incentives watch their own inventory. Paylode checks each gift-card incentive's live pool inventory hourly. If you set a low-inventory threshold on the incentive, a warning fires when the pool's available cards for that denomination and currency drop below it — and whether or not you set one, the incentive is automatically paused the moment the pool hits zero, so customers never see a reward that can't be delivered.

Before you begin

  • A campaign. See Create a Boost campaign.
  • The rewards ready to attach — the perks you want to offer, and for a gift-card incentive, a funded pool with the denomination you want to give.

Steps

1. Open the campaign's Perks tab

In Boost campaigns, open your campaign and switch to the Perks tab. It lists the campaign's current incentives in rank order.

2. Add the rewards

Add each reward to the list:

  • A perk incentive — pick the perk. Only perks available to your account appear as options; if one you expect is missing, it may have expired or been pulled.
  • A gift-card incentive — pick one of your funded pools, then a denomination and currency it holds, and an expiry for the reward link the customer will receive. You can also set a low-inventory threshold — the number of remaining cards at which you want an early warning that the pool is running low (say, 10). The threshold and the reward-link expiry stay editable on the incentive after it's created. The pool must be yours and funded — an empty or depleted pool can't back an incentive. See Gift Cards for ordering the inventory itself.

3. Rank them

Order the list so your strongest reward is rank 1 — it's the first thing the customer sees in a teaser. Every incentive needs its own rank; the app won't save two rewards in the same position.

4. Hold back what's not ready

Each incentive has its own active/paused switch. Pause a reward to keep it attached and ranked without showing it to customers — useful for staging the next promotion inside a running campaign. See Pause a campaign or incentive.

Once you're live

Your ranked, active incentives are what a customer sees when they reach the campaign's rewards. From here:

  • Preview the order end to end with Go live with Boost.
  • Keep the list healthy — perks can expire; swap a soon-to-expire reward for a fresh one in the app before the campaign shows a dead offer.

Troubleshooting

caution

A removed incentive disappears for customers immediately. Removing a reward from the list takes it out of teasers and rewards on the next request. If you might bring it back, pause it instead — pausing keeps the setup.

note

A gift-card incentive pauses itself when its pool runs dry. Rewards only reserve cards that exist, so when the pool has no cards left for the incentive's denomination and currency, the incentive is automatically paused. Set a low-inventory threshold on the incentive to get a warning on the way down, and top the pool up before it empties — the pool's tracking view shows live inventory. Once the pool is refilled, set the incentive back to active; see Pause a campaign or incentive.

Warnings and auto-pause notices arrive over Slack: if your client success manager has set up a shared Slack channel with you, they land there; if not, your client success manager sees them and will reach out.
